Great place for family and friends or even alone. All you need to do is make a donation(cheap) and drive through. I usually donate 5 dollars for a day trip. There is so much wildlife to see. They have a pond/lake for fishing, birds of all kinds, bison, elk, deer, rabbits, and much more. My only warning is that ticks are prevalent in the area. So stick to visitor sites. But for the daring there are also hiking routes through the park. Not only is this place awesome but it's located right next to a national wild bird sanctuary. This makes for a great trip. I brought my wife and two kids. We had a blast seeing something new for 8 hours straight between the two parks.
I grew up going to and loving this park. It's one of my very favorite places! In addition to hiking trails, they have picnic areas that are peaceful enough for doing yoga or for hanging with family and friends doing lunch. The pretty drive through the park gives you an opportunity to spot elk, deer, raccoons, wild turkeys, bison...the list can go on and on! Visit this park for sure!
I liked it and so did my 2 year old. It is a nice driving tour. You can see bison, elk and geese for sure. The buffalo were right beside the road and my boy loved looking at them. The elk were a little too far off the road for him to see good.
But honestly, it's a neat park, stop by and see what you can see !!! This is some of what we saw on our last trip !!!!
If you get a couple of hours, it is definitely worth an afternoon trip.
We just picked a random place and ended up here. It was a beautiful experience. I think it's best to visit during fall. The colors were so pretty. It's not much of a hiking area, though. Because of the wildlife here, you're advised to stay in your car at all times. It's a wonderful sanctuary.
Lone Elk Park is one of the neatest parks I've ever been too. To be able to get that close to such huge animals and not be in a zoo is an awesome feeling !!! It's so exciting !!! It's not too far from the house , so we can visit often. It's really an AWESOME park !!! You can see deer, elk, bison, turkey & I'm sure there's more that we didn't see !!!! If you get a chance, you have to visit, be sure to drop your dollar( for the whole car load ) in the collection box , it's optional, but it helps to take care of the animals !! You have that much laying on the floor boards !! Lol
